| Article: | ATEP leadership is at the national High Tech conference in Scottsdale. There are 500 attendees from community colleges, universities, high tech companies and federal government. What a wonderful opportunity to get a glimpse of programs from all over the nation. Many of the U.S. National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Centers are there displaying resources that ATEP might use to build and support programs.
Leadership from the National Center for Optics & Photonics Education (OP-TEC) and ATEP spent two days of planning to support and expand the ATEP Photonics, Optics and Laser program.
ATEP Provost Dr. Randy Peebles attended an informative session on U.S. National Science Foundation grants and funding.
U.S. Department of Labor Program Director Brad Wiggins was pleased that ATEP will be focused on high tech and career training programs. ATEP Provost Dr. Randy Peebles is shown here holding a prototype polomer film that has over one million transistors printed onto it for testing a flexible display screen on a tour to the Flexible Display Center @ ASU. ASU Macro Technology Works Education and Research facility operates a 250,000 square foot research and design center as part of a contract with the U.S. Army and many industrial sponsors. This is a $100 million dollar, ten-year project. Dr. Peebles was amazed to see over 30,000 square feet of high tech enclosed clean rooms where robotic arms moved materials from step to step in an automated process. This project demonstrates what partnerships and collaboration can do.
ATEP Provost Dr. Randy Peebles (standing) works with partnering college staff to plan a national collaborative of partners to support our high tech training and education programs at ATEP.
