Medical Insurance Coding and its related occupations are among the fastest growing opportunities in the healthcare industry. The objective of the Medical Insurance Coding Occupational Skills Award program is to provide the student with the skills to perform a variety of functions, including those associated with organizing, analyzing, and technically evaluating health insurance claim forms and coding of diseases, surgeries, medical procedures, and other therapies. Students will learn the basic concepts and procedures to perform the tasks involved in the medical insurance industry. They will gain the knowledge of basic coding definitions and how to apply those codes to medical documentation.
Learning the proper techniques and practices of medical coding and billing is an essential part of this program. The demand for medical insurance coding professionals continues to rise, as the aging US population requires more medical attention and the insurance and governmental regulations have become more complex.
Our curriculum is designed to prepare the learner to meet the requirements for employment in medical offices, clinics, hospitals and other health care environments that require skills in medical insurance coding. We give you critical knowledge and experience in areas like ICD-9, CPT-4 and insurance forms.

Completion of the occupational skills award in Medical Insurance Coding prepares the student for employment in a medical office or as an independent consultant/contractor who specializes in medical insurance billing and coding.
