Troops to College

California's Troops to College initiative was announced by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in March 2006 to provide educational opportunities and assistance to active duty service members and veterans by the state's premier education segments and related agencies. He specifically targeted increased instructional opportunities to men and women on active duty, the National Guard and the Reserves.


Student Information
VA educational benefits are available to eligible military Veterans and/or their eligible dependents. It is very important that, as a VA student, you fully understand your responsibility to provide your college with the required documentation and to immediately notify them of any change in your status as a VA student.

The Veterans' Affairs Office at Saddleback College or Irvine Valley College (whichever is your College of Record) can help you apply for your VA educational benefits.

You will be given several forms to complete and submit depending on which Chapter of the Montgomery GI Bill you qualify for. You will be need to request your transcripts from other colleges you've attended, if applicable. You will also be required to obtain a computerized Educational Plan in order to receive VA benefits.
